About the CJS Lab
The Carbon Justice Standard Lab (CJS Lab) is a mission-driven initiative advancing equitable, community-led natural climate solutions. We develop methodologies, implementation tools, and market interfaces that support ethical, community-centered forest carbon projects. We are working to reshape carbon markets around community leadership, equity, and ecological integrity.
Position Overview
We are seeking a part-time Fundraising Contractor to help lead and implement the CJS Lab’s fundraising efforts over the next six months. This is a remote contract position (~10 hours/week) working closely with the Founding Director and Operations Manager.
The ideal candidate combines strategic fundraising experience with strong grant writing, donor research, and relationship management skills. They should be comfortable working independently in a fast-moving, mission-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising plans targeting foundations, carbon market stakeholders, and sustainability-focused donors.
- Identify and research potential funding sources through philanthropic networks, LinkedIn, and sector-specific communities.
- Take primary responsibility for drafting, refining, and managing grant proposals, reports, and fundraising materials that clearly articulate the CJS Lab’s mission and align with funder priorities.
- Manage internal CJS Lab databases and ensure accurate record-keeping of donor interactions, pledges, and grant timelines.
- Provide regular updates and reports to stakeholders on progress of our work.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and/or relevant experience in fundraising, marketing, environmental science, sustainability, or a related field.
- Extensive experience in fundraising and donor relations within the climate, conservation, or sustainability space.
- Proven track record of successful fundraising campaigns, with preference given to candidates who have secured funding from climate-focused philanthropies and donors, or ESG-aligned institutions.
- Strong network within the philanthropic and/or sustainability community.
- Experience with fundraising software and CRM systems, along with comfort using contemporary research and proposal development tools.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with donors who prioritize environmental and social impact.
